July 12, 1997 - Saturday

Today started out rather less than spectacularly.  I noticed that Stephen was limping again.  He was limping last weekend on our trip up to the mountains.  I had been watching him and he hadn't limped all week, not even last night when we had gone to the park. So this pretty much came out of the blue today.   I asked him where it hurt and he pointed to a spot right under the ankle.  I felt around and compared it to the other foot and it isn't swollen.  He also didn't feel any pain from the slight pressure I was applying so I'm pretty confident it must be muscle strain.  Just to be sure, we went to the supermarket after breakfast so I could see how he was doing. He kept on limping so I decided that today's plans for more sightseeing were out.  I had to keep him immobile to give a chance for his foot to get some rest.  He probably is getting more activity than he usually does seeing as we have no tv here for him to sit down and vegge out at.  I'm also going to have him wear his new hiking boots this week instead of his sneakers as I think they probably have better support for his feet.

Tell you the truth,  the bottom of my feet aren't feeling so hot.  And I'm up and about a lot less than the kids are.

It was interesting that along the way to/from the super mercati we passed a number of boys that apparently he had been playing soccer with during the week.  They were all very friendly and one even rode along on his bike wanting to make sure that Stephen would come to the field to play.  But unfortunately I couldn't let him go.  We had to keep him off his feet today.  It is interesting how even without a common language they managed to converse with each other.  Stephen is making an effort to pick up on Italian to be able to speak with them.  I was wondering where the recent fascination with the Italian/English dictionary was coming from.

So today's entry isn't all that interesting.  We sat around the house.  Lunch was some sandwiches and mozzarella cheese.  Then Stephen put together his new Lego toy we bought today and Kristie played with her new Barbie doll.  We also read through the instructions to play Morris.  Although I'm not sure we were playing it correctly it was still enjoyable.

We had also bought some new shower towels.  I'm not particularly satisfied with their quality.  We definitely have better quality towels back in the states.

Dinner rolled around.  We had pasta and they had an ice cream cone for desert.  Bananas for a post dinner snack.  Stephen pretty much kept to the bed most of the day to keep his foot off the ground.  They're pretty full of energy today considering how little they did and I think it will be a while before either one falls asleep.  The new citronella candles seem to be doing the trick.  I'm not being invaded by bugs tonight.

My allergies are not subsiding at all.  The past couple of days I've had to hit the Tavist-D again.  I'm not quite sure what is causing it but I'll get into these sneezing fits.  I'm guessing it must be pollen.

I've seen the owners wife out tending their vin yard and vegetable gardens.  She seems to be doing all that work.  I haven't seen the owner the past couple of days.

Hopefully Stephen's foot will be better tomorrow.
