Today, we went to the Köln zoo.
The entrance to Köln zoo.
Two humped camels.
Prarie dogs.
Even in the zoo the meerkats have a lookout watching for predators.
Mongooses as seen from a bird's eye view. They are digging holes into the ground.
Black bears hanging out in the trees.
Petting a sheep.
Petting a goat.
A siberian tiger taking a nap.
Zebras.
A leopard too close for comfort!!!
In the monkey rooms, you see little monkeys running around loose! They are all over the place, mostly in the trees. They let you get very close to them without running off.
Monkeys.
Orangutans.
A real beaver!
Giraffes. The females were in heat today and were chased around by the males.
Seals playing with someone's hat!
Aw, how cute. Little chickens being incubated and hatched. How educational!
Educational indeed! The little chicklets are really food for the zoo residents!! Here you can see a man in the process of cutting up the young birds. There is a tray of the birds (already dead) in the blue tub near his arm! We had earlier seen the blue tub sitting in plain view on a table in the middle of this room. But I was so sickened I couldn't take a picture of them. This wasn't that easy to photo either. This guy must have a hard time sleeping at night.
Unfortunately you can't see the brilliant color of red with all the fencing around these birds.
A rhino.
