This weekend we headed out to Maastricht to do some sightseeing.  And this time I did not forget my camera.

Hotel Boot is actually a hotel on a boat.  It is a converted tug boat.  Most of the rooms are either singles or doubles with everyone sharing the showers.  For the large groups there is one large room that accomodates about 6 people.

Relaxing by one of the squares in Maastricht you can see street performers.  Here a man is juggling burning sticks while he balances on a unicycle.

This weekend was also the weekend of a large fair in the main square near the city center.  You can see how the fair contrasts against the background of old buildings. There were many people at the fair.

This is a view downstream from the HotelBoot.  The bridge is one of the main pedestrian bridges across the river.

This view is upstream of the boat.  You can see the museum in the distance and the eggshaped part of the building.

The central train station in Maastricht.

I think this is the bourse for Maastricht.

This is an old church that originally was built in 1297.  It has been toppled and rebuilt over the centuries.

A sidestreet in Maastricht.

You never know what you will see when you follow down a sidestreet in Maastricht.  We had turned off a main road into a small sidestreet upon hearing running water.  And here we found this picturesque waterwheel!

You can see parts of the wall that used to guard the city from neighboring invaders.

One view of the Onze Lieve Vrouwebasillek.  On the inside, this is a very Gothic looking church.

This is a view of the alter inside the Onze Lieve Vrouwebasillek.  There are few lights on in the church.  On Sundays, in the afternoon, you can see the treasures the church has in a seperate room for a small fee of 3.50 guilders.

Another view of the outside of the Onze Lieve Vrouwebasillek.  This view provides a better angle to view the tower.

The square directly in front of the Onze Lieve Vrouwebasillek has ample seating for the many restaurants around the square.  Here you can find reasonably priced meals in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

This is a view of the street from the bridge leading back to the central train station in Maastricht.  There is a friendly Irish pub on the left hand side called Jamesons.  They even have a television where we caught the latter part of the F1 race.
