My Olympus D600L won't turn on! Help!!
There is nothing more
depressing than going to turn on your Olympus
D600L and nothing happens! I know, it happened to
me! The problem stems from somekind of internal
problem that occurs with the D600L. And the
little documented Reset button is the answer.
Inside the card compartment is a reset button.
You need a paperclip or a toothpick to push into
the hole and hold it there for a couple of
seconds. Having done this, the Olympus D600L
should now come back to life. Note that you might
have to correct the date and time settings in the
camera.
Getting consistent exposure in
a Panorama
If you haven't used the Enroute
QuickStitch software that came with the Olympus
D600L you are not taking advantage of a valuable
piece of software that creates stunning
panoramas.
First thing that I noticed is
horizontal photos work better at stitching than
vertical ones. I don't know why but none of my
vertical photos stitch together well. So I stick
to taking only horizontal photos to create a
panorama.
Exposure setting is incredibly
important for taking panoramas. And it took some
experimenting on my part. But I found that the
only way to get a consistent exposure setting was
to always sample the exposure from wherever the
first photo was taken. So even with an 8 frame
panorama, you depress the shutter button halfway
only in the exact spot where the first photo is
taken. Then you get a consistent exposure setting
for your panorama.
Flash
The built-in flash on the D600
is alright, but like most built-in flashes just
not the greatest. I found lots of shadows in my
photos. But you can solve the problem by
utilizing an external slave flash. Just that
there is no standard hot-shoe to place a flash
on! You can find slave flashes that work with the
D600 at SR Electoronics and the Digislave series
of flashes.
